The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) has an impressive and storied history, evolving to address complex and high-risk law enforcement situations. Established initially as the Special Enforcement Detail (SED) in 1958, it was formed to handle protests and civil disorders. Over the years, the unit expanded and took on various responsibilities, leading to its redesignation as the SEB in 1967.
Each detail has its own specific mission, utilizing specialized training and equipment to handle diverse situations. The SEB's mission now includes resolving critical incidents such as barricaded suspects, hostage situations, high-risk warrant services, dignitary protection, search and rescue operations, and hazardous material incidents.
Additionally, the SEB remains a pioneer in law enforcement tactics, emphasizing continuous training and innovation to stay ahead of emerging threats, and protecting the streets and citizens of Los Angeles.
